[Open] Here Comes This Rising Tide
Who: Hawks & You
Status: Open
Where: Various Locations
What: MANTA Board Quests
Warnings: Thanks to Closing Loose Ends, I would expect violence and bloodshed, unless everyone is real cooperative which seems unlikely. A rare chance to see the dark side of Hawks. If he is pressed about this, there may be more. I’ll update accordingly.
Glory In The Hole
[ Hawks enters the craftsman’s store after following the request on the MANTA board, and having listened diligently to the instructions, he sets to work gathering materials. He doesn’t need a charm like this, as far as he knows, but it would be nice to share one with the crew. With all the heat and flame involved, Hawks find an empty spot in a cubby hole and much of his feathers start pulling out of his wings to pile up there, leaving him with very small wings on his back. He just doesn’t want to drag the other feathers into a potential health hazard.
That’s when he’ll be caught out and find himself turning to greet whoever has walked in to join him. ]
Trying this out too? The different coloured glass pieces are over there. [ Not at all shockingly, Hawks has selected reds and oranges. ]
Paint The Town ROYGBIV
[ Unsurprisingly, Hawks has never done this, and he has no real artistic talent, but he’s going to give it all. The selection of graffiti paints has him picking up a spray can of of silver paint. Maybe he can outline something? ]
Hey. [ He half-whispers to the person next to him. ] What are you going to draw?
Tara-Tam Deepcroft 2
[ The noise is unsettling. Not the fact it’s ghostly, or the fact that Tara-Tam had been vacant last time he was here, nor is it the volume – Hawks can’t pinpoint where the noise is. That’s downright disturbing.
He stands in the entrance with his brows furrowed, he’s even got his earphones to try and help him but no, nothing. It’s just...noise. Ambient noise almost. ]
What is going on in this place? [ He’s awfully focused, most likely someone catching his attention will startle him. ]
Eggscort Duty
[ Okay so Hawks isn’t exactly swimming in gold to donate, so that’s out, but he can defend the hoard from anyone who would come to line their pockets during this opportune time.
He sidles up to whoever is crouching down, sifting through the pile. ]
Hello! [ He sounds cheerful enough but he’s looming over them. ] What do you think you’re doing?
Cat Kneads
[ Hawks is a hero. Not just a hero, he’s the number two hero and that’s not without the skills behind it – but honestly, this is the worst mission. He was chasing a cat that happened to be wearing a hat, but that’s not the problem.
The cat is a cat and when he dove to try and get it, the cat has turned around and started attacking his wings. ]
I can’t... stop that! [ Hawks pulls himself up and starts trying to bat at his wings, but that cat sure is digging their claws into what presumably they believe to be their prey. ]
Who is catching who here?!
[ If he’s turning around in a circle, trying to get a cat off of him, it’s definitely because he means to. ]
Closing Loose Ends
[ Hawks was one of those who had been captured in this crystallization scheme. He does not care about the personal slight – he cares about the fact they hurt so many people. It makes him mad, and so when the bounties start showing up, he snatches them off the board without a word, ready to take flight.
If he’s not claiming a bounty page, he’s already in pursuit, landing in random seedy looking places, chasing down an alleyway.
Oh he could catch them alright, but the way he’s behaving is more like a predator who is playing with his food. He’ll still do the heroic thing, but giving them a head start, toying with them...well that’s hardly worth the suffering they inflicted on others.
Hawks is coming for them, one way or another. ]

closing loose ends
as of now, there isn't much to work with, she doesn't need any back-up, but what stands out to her is ripped bounty pages here and there. some stripped from the top, torn at the bottom, completely yanked off with only a few pieces of paper still there. the tenrec stares at what's leftover, but she doesn't have any idea what could be the cause of it.
is someone hiding or is someone being protected?
whatever the answer is, she doesn't ignore what little signs offered to her. the girl jumping against the side walls of buildings close together so that she can make it to the top of one, gain an aerial view and look around. the girl whistles, blue eyes scanning around the area until she hears a flap of feathers, and it's not a normal sound typically heard.
that's something... different.
her ears twitch, but she doesn't move because she's trying to listen for that sound again, and get an idea of which way they're going. ]
no subject
He doesn't go that far, the distance is maybe four or five blocks away when he drops down in a dive and lands on the ground. He's landed outside a sketchy, semi-abandoned looking building, but no matter how angry he is, and how serious he is about this mission, he's still going to do it right.
Hawks leans against a wall, out of the way from any windows and closes his eyes. Several feathers shoot out of his wings and head into the building, scouting it out. He'll be there for a minute or two before he makes his next move. ]
no subject
what is he doing? ]
...
[ the tenrec blinks at what's being done, tilting her head to the side at the feathers that surveys the location. it doesn't make much sense to her from where she is, but there's nothing calling for her to reveal her location.
what she does get is that he's looking for someone.
who?
moving along the side, the tenrec uses the darkness of the building to hide herself, blue eyes keeping the other in sight. it's nothing troubling as far as she can see, even if the building he's searching in seems completely lights out from where she is. the girl squints before looking away from the area to make sure no one else is around aside from him and her. ]
no subject
One feather zips in front of her and stays there a moment. Hawks now knows she's there, but it also moves on, she's not his target.
Finally he sighs heavily. Not here, but that isn't going to stop him from seeking out more information. ]
Already on the move. [ Hawks mutters to himself, looking at the page again. ]
no subject
Can you see me, hear me?
[ she's talking directly to the feather, keeping distance only because she doesn't know if it's safe to go down there despite she can see he's looking at the paper.
he's the one who's taken them down, now... who's on it? her grip on the feather is a little tighter now, and maybe she shouldn't grab things she doesn't know about, but she's rather curious and thinks that maybe it's smart to stay at the top level while he's on the bottom. ]

closing loose ends
A familiar winged man.
The mage doesn't have time to understand why this fellow is being pursued by Hawks. He watches them catch their balance and continue running. Should he follow? Should he care? Well, he's somewhat curious what they've done so he will follow the pursuit at a brisk jog (or a glide if need be). ]
no subject
He leaps, gliding on his wings and dives onto the man, using the force to shove him into a back alley, standing above his prey. Feather already zipping into his hand. His goggles have been removed and his stare is one of contempt, his gaze is predatory. ]
I gave you the chance to turn yourself in. This is the last time I'm asking you. Either way, you're not getting away.
no subject
But before he can withdraw and continue on his way, the man on the ground wails at him. ]
Help me, he's going to kill me!
[ Emet-Selch looks somewhat taken aback. They're asking him for help? What, does he look like a good samaritan?? ]
no subject
[ Hawks doesn't think Emet-Selch will intervene, but he could be surprised. He's not a big fan of being witnessed in this situation, but it is what it is. His feather is not wavering.
He looks far more menacing than he did the last time they met, but he's intending to be. He wants this man to be intimidated and know he's serious. ]
no subject
[ Emet-Selch sidles up - giving just enough room to not be accidentally decapitated by that feather - and leans into the scene.
But just as the culprit may be getting their hopes up for a rescue, Emet-Selch speaks again. ]
If you want to silence them without killing too quickly, you might consider cutting out the tongue and cauterising it first. Particularly as you don't seem to have the means to tear out their larynx.

Glory In The Hole
as soon as she steps in, she finds a familiar face, though one she hasn't seen in some time. a small smile curls her lips as she takes note of where the indicated supplies are. ]
Thought I'd give it a go. Not my usual idea, but I like to give people a hand when I can. Can't say I expected to meet again in a situation like this, but it's not unwelcome.
[ neve selects teals and blue-greens, colors that go well with her skin tone and lean towards the color painted on her nails. paint job needs an update, but she hasn't been able to make it out to the places bennedikta suggested yet. ]
Hope the spikes didn't give you more trouble after we parted last month.
no subject
Yeah I don't know what I'm doing, but I can follow instructions. I did okay, got a few more spikes out, but I think it turned out okay in the end.
no subject
What fascinates her is finding different people in places she might not have expected. ]
Same to you, [ she says genuinely. ]
Good. Then you can help make sure mine don't do the same.
[ the corner of her mouth is curled upwards in her usual smirk, but there's a genuine interes. Maybe if they work together, they can get this to work better.
She moves to pick up the tools to get started. ]
The only person I know who might be good at this instantly is Bellara. Friend from home. But she's good at making artifacts and magical items work for her.
no subject
[ Hawks kind of misses him, in his own way, he hasn't seen him in a long time even before he got there. Ah well. ]
I can certainly repeat instructions back to you, but as for finesse I doubt I've got it yet. Maybe with practice.
[ He sets his red and orange glass chunks so he can melt them down. ]
no subject
[ that checks out, if she's honest, annoying as it might be. ]
Haven't felt any adverse effects, yet, have you?
[ not that she's heard of anything going wrong, but she's still got an overabundance of caution. wouldn't be neve gallus if she didn't and a part of her wonders how this might go sideways.
but for now, she settles in close by to prepare once he's done with his latest try and there's more room to work. ]

Glory in the Hole
[Dion too follows the instructions given, reading them twice before setting out to the craftsman's shop. He has some knowledge of how equipment on his own star is enchanted with the use of crystal, but this is entirely unique and has piqued his interest.
While he'd been a part of the crew himself before, he only knows that by word of mouth as he has no memory of the place and a gift of this charm would make a fitting thank you he feels, as they have a ship and would have use for such a thing.
He's pleasantly surprised to be greeted by Hawks when he arrives, offering the man a slight smile and nod.]
I am. I thought it a fitting gift in thanks for my acceptance into the crew. You have been well, I trust?
[He goes to find his own glass pieces, choosing translucent and gentle blues. They speak to him.]
No worries!
Yeah, not too bad for the most part. [ He's been out there making friends and doing quests, so he can't complain. ]
I figured the crew could use mine too, I don't exactly spend much time on the ship.
no subject
[Admittedly, Dion's own wings came at a cost that didn't afford for long flights, but he'd ridden air currents enough to know they would.]
no subject
But I've flown in hurricanes and tsunamis, I think I'll be fine. Better to protect the crew.
[ He takes the wind as naturally as breathing. ]
no subject
[And he means the jab as a jest if the small smile of his is any indication.]
It would seem we've come with similar goals.

CAT KNEADS
A flash of wings and fur and shouting ensues!?
This both a hilarious and horrifying sight to see! Could this be the end of the intrepid #2 hero?]
H-Hang on, hold still!
[No! Says Enty, who quickly moves in to try and help save the day!]
Sorry about the wait, I had a busy weekend to recover from
Stop that! [ Cats are notoriously bad at listening, he looks like a big plaything.
Fortunately he's in good hands with a rescuer at his side. ]
Alright. [ He holds up his hands and keeps still even if he's got a cat half sitting on his primaries. ] This cat is a thief!
no worries! been super out of it lately too
[She very carefully reaches to snag the criminal feline by its scruff! Mindful of its claws and how it's currently performing its HORRIBLE act of aggression on Hawks!
Easy does it...!]
no subject
Yes, the cat. I was trying to chase it but it chased me.
no subject
[She looks at him, then the cat, then back at Hawks. And then let's out a laugh.
Sorry, its kind of funny? Also it kind of makes sense because... you know, bird guy!]
